Description

For an art trade with the amazing RetroEULE, I could pick one of her many wonderful characters. Eventually, my choice came down to Rayza!

I really love his design and just had to give him a try ;u; When I read that water reacts to him, sort of like bending, I really wanted to draw that. Hopefully, I understood the bending part correctly so that this theme fits him o///o And thank you for waiting so patiently! Unfortunately in my first try he ended up with a balloon head, but after checking again it turned out that his proportions are slightly different from what I am used to drawing. So drawing him was quite a challenge, but I am glad that I stuck to it and managed to pull through in the end! ovo It was a really interesting journey for me and lots of fun to go through!

Hopefully, you like the result of this ACEO card u///u

By the way, once again, I used a silver edding here! The shiny effects can be seen in the Tumblr link below.

Hey! I saw this and it immediately caught my eye --Always nice to see well-rendered anthros in traditional media!

This looks like watercolor or watercolor pencil (?) If so, it's very fitting for the subject. And in any case, you do an excellent job of taking advantage of the medium to create colored shades and tones. That's not easy to do in my experience. I also like the integrated dynamism here --How the water, the twist of the body, the gesture of the hands, and even the facial expression all work together to create a sense of a single strong action. Both hands, btw., are really well done -- Hard to get hands right, especially on the first try! The background also supports the feeling of movement, and while it is strongly colored, it doesn't interfere with our perception of the figure and their action.

I wonder if the eyebrows and the outlines of the eyes and mouth could be softened a bit? These details may be intrinsic to the character, so I don't know if that's desirable or not, but it feels to me like they "Stick out" from the soft quality of the rest of the piece. If you did them the same way you did the outline of the ears, it might make the head a little more seamless? Just a thought, as they're not really a major problem "as is."

The other thing that I was wondering about is the cape that the character is wearing -- I noticed it only because I have had this come up in my own work :-p --Should there be a matching lapel on the character's right side? Again, not a big deal.

Overall, I really like this piece. The rogue-like feel of the character is endearing, and your style is appealing. It's also quite original for what I've seen on DA. Keep up the great work! <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":-)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="392" title=":-) (Smile)"/>
